From the search box to a payment link

Intuit's August 31 post is the product in the companies' own words. When you authenticate with the QuickBooks account you already have, the data moves through Intuit's platform, under Intuit's security and privacy controls, using MCP connectors, the protocol that lets one app take a named action in another. Perplexity Computer can then manage cash flow by following up on overdue invoices, setting up recurring invoices, and sending payment links. It can also retrieve payslips and access payroll employee information. Retrieve is the word Intuit used. That is not running payroll. Mailchimp is in the same partnership. Alex Balazs, Intuit's chief technology officer, said the point is going from answers to action. Dmitry Shevelenko, Perplexity's chief business officer, said businesses can now execute financial actions in one workflow. Both are right about the stitch. You still name who may send a payment link, and which invoices that person may not touch.

A first AI hire, meaning the first named job you let software run without you standing over it, can live in this connector. It can be the overdue list you already stare at. It cannot be "the search box now collects for the shop." The firm owner who still chases invoices after the matter closes still owns the send.

Four hours and the open pile

A contractor who is still the collections department after the truck day already knows what an open pile costs in hours. The jobs are done and the invoices are not, so the owner is the one who sits down at the laptop when the crew has gone home. Bluevine's 2026 SMB AI Trends Report surveyed 942 US small-business owners, fielded April 7 to 9, 2026 by Centiment. Among SMBs using AI, 48 percent save at least 4 hours a week, including 23 percent who save 4 to 6 hours, 11 percent who save 7 to 9, and 14 percent who save 10 or more.

Cash flow at 67.9 percent interest

Intuit, the same week, listed following up on overdue invoices, recurring invoices, and payment links as Perplexity Computer actions on QuickBooks.

Sixty-seven point nine percent is Bluevine's cash-flow figure, not an industrial census. Interest is not a named job. An agent sending a payment link on a disputed job is the fear that already lives in that office. Name who may chase overdue invoices before Perplexity Computer acts, so the 67.9 percent interest does not become an unsupervised link.

Trust still wants a reviewer

A plant owner who still pulls payslips and chases vendors by hand is looking at a chat window that can now see payroll data. Intuit listed retrieving payslips and accessing payroll employee information as actions, again retrieve, not run payroll. The same Bluevine survey says 82 percent of those 942 owners hit at least one barrier to using AI more deeply, led by data security at 33 percent, and 78 percent do not fully trust AI on low-level tasks without oversight.

Those percents are Bluevine's, on a sample of US owners with 2 to 249 employees and $50,000 to $5 million in revenue. Do not treat 78 percent as your shop. Treat it as the reason a stop rule belongs on the card before you connect. Payroll sitting in a chat window is the fear, and another tool they do not trust with the books is how that fear shows up. A named payroll and collections job, with oversight, is the hire. Connect after the names, not before.

Who may act before it sends

Connect QuickBooks in Perplexity Computer if you already live in both. Then write three names before the first follow-up.

First, who may act. That person is allowed to let the workspace chase an overdue invoice. Second, which invoices it may not touch. Disputed jobs, retainage, and anything the closer has not billed this week stay off the list. Third, the stop rule.
